Stories of Restoration: Josiah

Josiah grew up in a Christian family, attending church regularly, yet his relationship with the Lord constantly fluctuated. He remembers his initial descent from the Lord in his teens as he became annoyed with his Christian beliefs for making him stand out among his friends. So, when offered alcohol and marijuana, he gladly took it in order to be accepted by his peers and hide the distaste he had for himself.

When Josiah graduated high school, he decided to join the United States Marine Corps. With the vigorous training and lack of spiritual influence, his drug and alcohol use only increased. When Josiah moved back home after his service, his dad saw his need for spiritual nourishment and began to minister to him.

Years after returning home, Josiah began to understand his need for God. Although he was developing serious physical attachment to substances, Josiah was also trying desperately to have a relationship with Christ. “It was just a crucible,” he says of his relationship with the Lord while he was in bondage to alcoholism and drug use. “As much as I wanted to stop the drinking and unhealthy habits, they grew worse the more I tried.” As he was sitting in his guilt and shame, Josiah’s dad came into his room with a meal and the words, “I love you.” Josiah realized then he hadn’t eaten in two days and his dad had noticed. Humbled and exhausted from his struggles controlling his life, he sought out counsel from a pastor who told him about His Mansion.

Joining the His Mansion Resident Program in 2021, Josiah was finally ready to receive the spiritual nourishment that he desperately needed. Seeing others in their walk with Christ gave him a greater understanding of what a relationship with Christ was like. Since graduating the program in January 2022, Josiah has returned as a Servant Leader, wanting others to experience the same closeness with the Lord that he has.

Staff Spotlight

Will Kurtenbach was led to His Mansion Ministries thirteen years ago when the Lord called him out of his corporate job. Since then, he has continued to make an impact here on “the Hill.” As the Office Manager, Will handles our financial accounts, insurance, and any IT or administrative office needs. His role is vital and essential to the success of our ministry.

Aside from his work in the office, Will has made a significant difference in the lives of the men here, often through intentional outings with them, called “visits.” Will states, “During walks, I have the blessing and honor of coming alongside the guys hearing them share their brokenness and doubt that God can restore them. By ministering to the guys, God is healing my own heart making an ordinary day extraordinary, if I have the eyes to see it.”

We’re thankful to have Will serving here with us. He is actively ministering to everyone he meets, whether through working in the office or visiting with others on the Hill. Will is seeing the Lord use him to change people’s lives and draw them closer to Himself.

Prayer Requests and Updates

As the year continues, please be in prayer for our ministry. Here are some prayer requests and updates:

  • Praise God for our new Women’’s Counselor! Pray that the Lord would bring a Men’s Counselor to serve with us.

  • Please pray with us as we look for a Director of Programs—that the Lord would bring just the right person to serve on staff.

  • We will have multiple recruiting efforts over the coming months. Please pray that the Lord would bring young adults to serve.

Thank you for partnering with us in prayer each month. Your prayers do not go unnoticed.

Partnership Opportunities

This season, we are working on making many updates to our facilities. Below is a list of the several partnership opportunities:

  • We would like to add an air hockey table to our game room, giving Residents and Servant Leaders a fun activity to do during free time.

  • We would like to add a refreshment station to our dining hall to allow easier access to beverages for Residents, staff, and guests.

  • Our outdoor walk-in freezer needs to be replaced with one constructed in the Grigg’s basement. This will replace the failing model and prevent walking outdoors in the winter months to access the freezer.

  • A new sander is needed for our winter road maintenance on the property.

If you are interested in helping with these projects and needs, contact us by phone at 603- 464-5555 or by email at info@hismansion.com.
